Thai cell phone operators urged to prepare for storm

BANGKOK, October 5 (TNA) - Due to concerns over heavy rains, expected mostly in eastern and southern provinces, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), has asked cell phone operators and the Amateur Radio Association (ARA) to be prepared in maintaining frequencies and signals. Thakorn Tantasit, secretary-general of NBTC said its requests to mobile phone operators and to the ARA came after the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation issued warnings to at least 20 governors of eastern and southern provinces that storms are expected to cover several areas and heavy downpours could be seen from Saturday to this Tuesday. He added that mobile phone owners encountering difficulties could file complaints to NBTC Tel. number 1200. (TNA)
