Thai Charter drafting authorities gather public opinions

BANGKOK, January 12 (TNA) - A sub-committee on public hearing and participation in Thailand's Constitution drafting will gather public opinions over the next two months. The sub-committee said on Monday that the mission will start in the central Suphan Buri Province on January 17-18, followed by nine other provinces within March 2015. Topics in the public hearings will include anti-corruption measures, national reconciliation, the acquisition of decent politicians, a good system of Thai House representatives, public participation and reduction in social inequality. During the mission in each province, the sub-committee will select 160 locals on the random basis, as well as selected 40 others, including persons with disabilities (PWDs) children and youths, to share their ideas in the forums. The sub-committee will then forward the public opinions to the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC). After Suphan Buri, the sub-committee will be in Roi Et Province in the Thai Northeast on January 23-24, with CDC Chairman Borwornsak Uwanno to be there himself. Next provinces will be Udon Thani Province in the Thai Northeast on February 14-15 and Surin, also in the Thai Northeast, on March 7-8. A CDC member, Thawilwadee Bureekul, told journalists that all parties can attend the forums or send their written opinions. (TNA)
