Thai court acquits Mujahideen suspect

BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) - The Court of First Instance has acquitted a Mujahideen suspect who was accused of being behind violence in the Thai far South, citing insufficient evidence. The acquittal for the suspect, Mahamasakri Mahama-useng, was read at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road in Bangkok on Thursday. The public prosecution earlier pressed many charges against him, including illegal assembly and rebellion, as well as taking part in bombing places in the violence-plagued Thai deed South, namely a train station, and plotting insurgency. The court ruled to give the benefit of the doubt to Mahamasakri because the prosecution lacked eyewitnesses to prove the man's wrongdoing. However, the court has prolonged his detention pending an appeal. Mahamasakri was arrested on September 21, 2012, when he was working as a security guard at an entertainment place in the southern Thai resort province of Phuket.(TNA)
