Thai Crown Prince attends ceremony on Coronation Day

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) - His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Sunday graciously gave a Royal permission to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to preside over a ceremony commemorating the 63rd anniversary of Coronation Day of HM the King. Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm, the Crown Prince attended the ceremony on the behalf of HM the King who is now recovering from lung inflammation at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital. Doctors providing medical treatment announced early Sunday that HM the King’s condition has improved as he could sleep but cannot take much food. As HM the King is still weak, doctors have advised him to temporarily suspend royal activities. Revered HM the King has been reigning since June 9, 1946. The royal ceremony was performed on May 5, 1950 in accordance with the tradition making the beloved monarch the King Rama IX of the reigning Chakri Dynasty. To date, HM the King is the longest serving monarch of the world and also of the Thai history. And in order to pay tribute to the revered King, people nationwide today also performed religious rites wishing HM the King healthy and pledged to be loyal to the country, religion and to the respectable the King.
