Thai Customs authorities seize nearly Bt100m illegal goods

BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) - Thai Customs authorities have intercepted and seized illegal products, totally worth over 98 million baht, including pirated and smuggled goods. Customs Department Director-General Rakop Srisupaat told a press conference in Bangkok on Tuesday that his department's officials have seized counterfeit items, including handbags, glasses, shoes and sportswears, with their total market value of about 27 million baht, as well as 580,000 baht-worth of cigarettes and alcohol and 300,000 baht-worth of glutathione, diet coffee and hookah. Rakop said that his department's officials also seized smuggled and prohibited goods, including 8 million baht-worth of Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars and 55 million baht-worth of dangerous drugs. According to the Customs Department's chief, an Indian national was also arrested for smuggling into Thailand 5 kilograms of gold bars, totally worth 650,000 baht. (TNA)
