Thai DPM orders measures against haze

BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan has ordered the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to implement measures to prevent and mitigate haze, especially in areas at risk. Assistant Government Spokeswoman Colonel Taksada Sangkhachan told journalists that General Prawit, who oversees national security, made the instruction during the Cabinet's weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House on July 26. The assistant spokeswoman stated that General Prawit has suggested that last year's solutions to smog be taken into account to map out this year's measures to prevent repeated cases. Besides, public relations campaigns should be launched to create proper awareness on wildfire vigilance and sustainable environmental conservation among local business operators and farmers, especially in areas at risk. Meanwhile, the assistant spokeswoman announced that a Cabinet weekly meeting will be postponed to August 17, from August 16 when Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha will visit neighbouring Malaysia.
