Thai DPM visits Singapore June 4-6

SINGAPORE, June 5 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn is paying an official visit to Singapore, scheduled for June 4-6, at the invitation of Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Thailand. General Tanasak met the Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law on Friday, during which both sides agreed that the island state and Thailand will enhance bilateral cooperation on intelligence exchanges, especially those on transnational terrorism and extremism. General Tanasak took the opportunity to thank the Singapore government for donating 200,000 US dollars to Thailand to support the Kingdom's handling with irregular migration in the region, including Rohingya migrants. General Tanasak also expressed Thailand's support for Singapore's role as the new coordinator between the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China as of July 2015, as Thailand completes the role. The visiting Thai deputy prime minister and foreign minister said he had paid a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as well, during with bilateral cooperation between Singapore and Thailand in all dimensions was discussed. The Thai deputy prime minister and foreign minister's ongoing trip to Singapore is also aimed to prepare for the upcoming official visit to the island state by Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, scheduled for June 11-12.
