Thai EC to hold meeting after Feb 2 election nullified

BANGKOK, March 22 (TNA) - The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) says that it plans to hold a special meeting next Monday to discuss what steps the EC should proceed, following the Constitution Court's ruling on Friday to nullify the country's general election on February 2, 2014. EC Chairman Supachai Somcharoen told reporters of the plan on Saturday, saying the EC would probably receive written details of the Constitution Court’s ruling next week. In nullifying the February 2 general election, the Constitution Court reasoned the caretaker government's failure to organize the nation poll in a single day as stipulated by the Constitution. Election candidates were unable to register and contest in 28 constituencies in eight southern provinces, out of a total of 375ones nationwide, due to obstruction by anti-government protesters.
