Thai EC urged to organize new election in southern provinces

BANGKOK, March 4 (TNA) - The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) has been urged to organize a new election in 28 constituencies of the country's eight southern provinces in which no candidates applied for the February 2 general election due to blockages by anti-government protesters. Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul made the call on Tuesday, saying that EC Chairman Supachai Somcharoen should be decisive on rescheduling voting in the 28 southern constituencies. Surapong proposed that the rescheduled election in the eight southern provinces be held on the same day of the Senate election on March 30, 2014 so that Thailand's complete democratic system could be restored subsequently.
