Thai embassy in Germany warns Thais to stay clear of protesting sites

BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) -- The Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin of Germany advised Thai nationals living the German city of Munich to avoid crowded places, after shootings in the city. The embassy posted a statement on its Facebook page, 'Royal Thai Embassy, Berlin', informing that various shootings had been reported in many locations in Munich on July 22 which brought about many casualties and prompted the German government to cancel all underground or metro services, as well as declared a state of emergency in Munich. Both the embassy and the Royal Consulate-General in Frankfurt would like to advise all Thai nationals currently residing in Munich or nearby cities to refrain from traveling to crowded when unnecessary, and to be extra vigilant when doing businesses in town, as well as to closely follow up on the situation until the state of emergency is lifted. According to international news reports, an 18-year-old German-Iranian gunman who apparently acted alone opened fire near a busy shopping mall in Munich on Friday evening, killing at least nine people. The attacker, identified by Munich Police Chief Hubertus Andrae as a dual national from Munich, was later found dead of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities said it was too early to say whether it was a terrorist attack. (TNA)
