Thai Embassy:Situation in SKorea remains normal

BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - The Thai Embassy in Seoul has announced on its Facebook that it has closely monitored updates in the Korean Peninsula and the situation in South Korea has remained normal so far. Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Manaswee Srisodaphon told reporters on Wednesday that the Thai Embassy and other foreign embassies in Seoul have been continually briefed updates in the Korean Peninsula by the South Korean Foreign Ministry and has confirmed that the situation has remained normal, with all airports opened for international passengers as usual. Manaswee, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, acknowledged, however, that Seoul has raised its surveillance to level 2 in accordance with Pyongyang's threatening statements as a precaution, insisting that the Thai Embassy in Seoul has kept a close watch on updates. Manaswee affirmed that all 103 foreign embassies in Seoul have not issued any notification for their nationals to evacuate from South Korea or issued any travel warning against South Korea; while the South Korean government has reiterated that its armed forces and relevant parties have been well-prepared to handle any situation triggered by North Korea. The spokesman noted that there will be staffs stationed at the Thai Embassy in Seoul during the upcoming Songkran or traditional Thai New Year long-holiday period to take care of Thai people who are visiting South Korea and to fully take appropriate actions to assist Thai nationals in case of any emergency, and that the Thai Embassy in Seoul has steadily sent its updated movements to Thai networks in South Korea. The spokesman's remarks were in response to reports that North Korea has warned foreigners in South Korea to urgently leave the country or to avoid traveling to the country. (TNA)
