Thai FM satisfies with JCBC meeting in Hanoi

BANGKOK, March 21 (TNA) – Thai Affairs Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn on Saturday has expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the 2nd Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in which Thailand and Vietnam have agreed to cooperate in security, economic and social affairs. General Tanasak told journalists on Saturday that the two countries would celebrate 40th diplomatic relations and the 3rd year of their strategic partnership next year. The two countries in June 2013 agreed to the establishment of a strategic partnership in five major fields, namely political relations, defence and security cooperation, economic cooperation, socio-cultural cooperation, and regional and international cooperation. General Tanasak said the Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry has established a working group to help in making preparations for exchanges of cultural and visits between officials of the two Southeast Asian countries. The 2nd JCBC meeting was held in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi on Friday and was co-chaired by General Tanasak and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh. Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Wittawat Sriwihok said the two countries agreed in principle during the Friday’s meeting to launch bus services between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam and between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam to promote tourism as well as cooperation on marine transportation. A meeting to discuss this issue will be held in Thailand in June, he said. Thai Ambassador to Hanoi Panyarak Poolthup said plans to cooperate on bus services and marine transportation would further enhance tourism and transportation facilities between Thailand and Vietnam.
