Thai government to bring nationality-verified migrant workers into SSW

BANGKOK, December 18 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Labour, is including migrant workers whose nationalities have already been verified in the official social security welfare. Thai Labour Minister Padermchai Sasomsap told journalists on Tuesday that his ministry was including some 1.1 million migrant workers from neighbouring countries, whose nationalities had already been verified in the Social Security system, within next year so that the alien workers would be entitled to official welfare and protected from human trafficking and have the better quality of life. The minister said his ministry's Department of Employment and the Social Security Office are expected to finish the inclusion as soon as possible. As of October 31, 2012, some 231,200 migrant workers whose nationalities had been verified were members of the official social security system, comprising 111,115 Myanmar workers at 4,883 workplaces, 45,724 Cambodian workers at 1,214 workplaces and 9,275 Lao workers at 1,126 workplaces.
