Thai government goes ahead with infrastructure projects in South

BANGKOK, March 10 (TNA) - Thailand’s Transport Ministry has outlined for infrastructure development in the southern region, focusing on transport connectivity. Director of the Transport and Traffic Policy Planning Office, Chula Sukmanop, said as part of the government’s 2-trillion-baht development project, new railways, seaports and roads would be built in southern Thai provinces to promote connectivity with Malaysia and Singapore. This also includes developing the Pak Bara Port in Satun province into a cargo distribution facility. A four-lane expansion project is set for the first year of construction, including road-repairs in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Hat Yai, Ranong and Chumphon. Railway and port projects will be carried out by 2015, ahead of the opening of the ASEAN Community. (TNA)
