Thai government launches anti-fake goods campaign

BANGKOK, June 7 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Commerce, has launched an anti-fake goods campaign, aimed to promote the purchase and use of only legal products among people, particularly younger generations in the country. With the cooperation from artists of several camps, Thai Commerce Minister Poom Saraphol presided over a ceremony in Bangkok on Wednesday to launch the campaign, themed a change in Thai youths' DNA toward anti-fake products, at local educational institutes. Under the campaign, younger generations across Thailand will be provided with proper information against pirated goods and the violation of intellectual property rights in order to comply with Thai and international laws. The commerce minister said that he believes, if concretely cooperated by all parties, the problem of intellectual property rights violations in Thailand will be relieved and eventually resolved. Meanwhile, the ministry's Department of Intellectual Property has introduced measures against pirated goods at all channels, including strict inspections and control of imported CDs production machines, license issuances for importing CDs production machines and possessions of CDs production machines and plastic pellets used for CDs production, as well as inspections of CDs production plants and crackdowns on producers of fake goods on the daily basis, strict control on retail CDs sales and launching regular PR campaigns against pirated products with cash rewards offered to those who provide tip-offs against sources of counterfeit goods.
