Thai government MPs seek int'l support for elected-administration

BANGKOK, November 20 (TNA) - A group of MPs from the ruling Pheu Thai Party is seeking support from the international community for the elected-Thai government. Pheu Thai MP for Bangkok Teerarat Samretwanich told a press conference on Wednesday that the government MPs were writing letters to foreign embassies to Thailand, including the Embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom, to communicate the message. Teerarat said the letters state that Thailand is one of Asian nations experiencing several coups d’etat and the latest one in 2006 led to mechanisms, including independent bodies set up under the present 2010 Constitution, destroying Thai democratic administrations. The MPs are, therefore, asking other countries to support their elected government and to reject unlawful power that, they claimed, may use an abnormal mechanism in the justice system to interpret laws in order to unfairly overthrow the elected-government. Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is encoutering domestic political strife with many anti-government street demonstrations, have continued performing her duties as usual amid intensified security.
