Thai government to raise fund for artificial legs production

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has promised that her government will take the lead in a fund-raising to produce artificial legs for people in need nationwide. Yingluck announced that low income-persons with disabilities (PWDs) will particularly benefit from her government's assistance in the form of the fund-raising for the production of prosthetic legs. The prime minister said that she will encourage the local private sector to contribute to the fund, while her government has agreed with the amendment of an regulation of the War Veterans Council in order to increase the cost-of-living allowance for the retired war veterans who are disabled. The War Veterans Organization of Thailand, meanwhile, plans to produce prototype electric wheelchairs and artificial legs for free distribution to disabled soldiers nationwide.(TNA)
