Thai government to tailor long-term water management plan

BANGKOK, June 21 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says that his government plans to tailor a long-term water management plan to be implemented until 2022. The prime minister announced the plan while closing the Thailand Sustainable Water Management Forum 2016 in Bangkok on June 20. The prime minister, however, urged all parties to help support water management in an integrated manner in accordance with the national water management strategy. The prime minister acknowledged the water problem is a world problem that needs a systematic management to ensure sufficient supply. The prime minister pointed out that main water problems in Thailand are insufficient water supply and a systematic water management, as well as impacts from the climate change. The Thai premier stressed that he has instructed all concerned agencies to speedily solve the problems in line with their earlier plans. The one-day forum was organised by the Siam Cement Group (SCG) Public Company Limited, the Utokapat Foundation Under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King and the Thai Journalists Association in response to their realisation of the importance of the country's systematic water management. Besides, the one-day forum was aimed to create cooperation between the local public and the private sectors, as well as the civil society to promote learning on the need of sustainable water management in the country, along with learning water management models from Singapore, the Netherlands and Israel to relay world-level knowledge to local communities.
