Thai Govt Helps M'sian Flood Victims

PASIR MAS (Kelantan, Malaysia), Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Thailand Government Thursday handed over flood aid in the form of food and medicines to the Malaysian Government at the ICQ Complex in Rantau Panjang here. The contribution was handed over by Thailand's Consul-General in Kelantan, Chakrit Kanjanasoon to Malaysia's National Security Council (MKN) Secretary, Mohamed Thajudeen Abdul Wahab. Earlier in his speech, Chakrit said the Thailand Government had also agreed to donate 500,000 metric tonnes of rice for the flood victims in stages. He said it reflected Thailand's concern on the plight of the flood victims, especially in Kelantan. A total 5,000 bags containing essential items were handed over to Mohamed Thajudeen during the ceremony. Meanwhile, Mohamed Thajudeen urged those who lost their homes in the floods in Kelantan recently, to relocate temporarily to three National Service training camps and a Territorial Army Camp in Kelantan. In the federal capital, 105 volunteers from the federal territories ministry left for Pekan, Pahang Thursday, to clean up 10 villages affected by the floods. The Post Flood Aid Mission, which was flagged off by its minister, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will also distribute 550 electric kettles, 550 electric rice cookers, stoves and items of daily needs, including toto blankets, towel, plates and cups and food worth US$55,997 (RM200,000). -- BERNAMA
