Thai govt to review ban on pickup ban after Songkran

BANGKOK, April 16 (TNA) - The Thai government will review a rule, barring passengers from riding in pickup beds and backseats after the Songkran festival. Col. Piyapong Klinpan, spokesman for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), reaffirmed that the regulation was introduced due to concern about passenger safety. The government, however, agreed to relax the rule during Songkran celebrations as it tried to avoid putting pressure on people. Nonetheless, the NCPO spokesman said the pickup regulation will be reconsidered after Songkran. He also dismissed concern that people might stage protests against the law enforcement in the future. The Thai authorities previously imposed the ban on pickup trucks carrying passengers at the back, but it sparked widespread criticism from the public. (TNA)
