Thai health officials prepared to serve Songkran travelers

BANGKOK, April 3 (TNA) - Health officials throughout Thailand have been ordered to be well-prepared for serving Songkran travelers, as the Thai Ministry of Public Health has targeted to help prevent and reduce losses of lives from traffic accidents, as well as illnesses and diseases during the seven dangerous days of the traditional Thai New Year Festival, set from April 10-17. Permanent-Secretary for Public Health Dr. Narong Sahamethapat told journalists that all his ministry's agencies and officials have been instructed to ensure prompt and equal medical care for all emergency cases during the forthcoming Songkran holidays, covering those from traffic accidents and underlying diseases or illnesses namely diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases, in parallel with paying attention to the safety of health officials on duties. Dr. Narong said all hospitals and health officials under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Health nationwide, especially 300 hospitals on highways where traffic will be heavier than usual, have been ordered to, thus, conduct rehearsals, covering all areas of practices in emergency namely at accident scenes, emergency rooms, operation rooms, critical centres and blood banks.
