Thai junta probes on alleged hacking of official websites

BANGKOK, August 25 (TNA) - The Thai army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) is investigating reports on alleged hacking of official websites. National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Anusit Kunakorn told journalists of the updated information on Tuesday, stressing, however, that it is too early to say whether the alleged hacking of the Thai government's websites is connected with a deadly bomb attack in central Bangkok on August 17, which killed at least 20 victims, mostly foreigners, and wounded more than 120 others. Anusit conceded that hacking on websites can be done if a hacker is knowledgeable and it is, thus, essential to hire experts who understand and know advance information technology (IT) and capable of protecting official websites. Anusit’s remarks were in response to local press reports that the Thai government's six websites were hacked on August 17 by an Islamic group, calling itself Fallag Gassrini & Dr. Lamouchi, from Tunisia. According to the reports, pictures of Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution in Myanmar and Muslim child victims of bomb attacks were posted on the sites. The NSC chief stated that no preventive measures on hacking have been laid out on normal official websites, except for those of significant agencies. (TNA)
