Thai junta to solve problems within limited time

BANGKOK, June 28 (TNA) - Urging people to be patient, Thai Army and National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha (ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา) says that the NCPO is rectifying accumulated problems in the country within a limited timeframe. Speaking during his weekly address broadcast nationwide on Friday night, General Prayuth acknowledged that there are several problems needed to be solved, as they affect people’s livelihood. General Prayuth elaborated the national problems the NCPO has prioritised are divided into three categories, namely urgent, short-term and long-term problems. For urgent problems, General Prayuth announced that the NCPO has tried to solve them within three months, starting from May 22, 2014, when the junta took the national administrative power, including crime, gambling, narcotics, deforestation, war weapons, influential people, smuggling of migrant workers, rising inflation, assistance for farmers and amendments of trade and investment laws. Besides, the NCPO is making preparations for a national reform to be implemented after the reconciliation process is complete. According to the NCPO chief, short-term problems, including corruption, as well as political and energy reform, education, economic equality, reduction in income disparity among people and access to natural resources, will be resolved after an interim government, national legislative assembly and the reform council are formed, taking not more than 300 days, in which people from all sectors will be allowed to participate. For long-term problems, the NCPO chief noted that they will be tackled after Thailand's fresh general election is held, along with remaining short-term problems for the sake of public and national benefits.
