Thai justice minister to probe procurement of bogus GT200 bomb detectors

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) - Justice Minister General Paiboon Koomchaya confirms that he will launch an investigation into Thailand's past procurement of fake GT200 bomb detectors. General Paiboon told journalists on Wednesday that Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has assigned his ministry to probe the procurement and Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam to check legal ways for Thailand to seek compensation from a British producer of the device. General Paiboon said that the movement followed a British court's earlier order to confiscate the assets of the bomb detector producer to compensate damaged parties, most of which are companies in other countries. The justice minister noted that the official investigation into the procurement will be separated from the legal study on ways to seek compensation. According to the minister, he is waiting for the official assignment that will be delivered through the Centre for National Anti-Corruption. The justice minister opined that Thailand deserves compensation because the Kingdom was also damaged by the bogus equipment. (TNA)
