Thai King, Queen are healthy, nationwide celebrations on King's birthday

BANGKOK, December 4 (TNA) - A senior royal doctor says that both His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit are healthy, as Their Majesties the King and Queen will grant a mass audience to well-wishers on December 5, His Majesty the King's 87th birthday this year. Dr. Udom Kachintorn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, who is also a royal physician, confirmed Their Majesties the King and Queen's good health on Thursday morning, after leading medical personnel and nurses to give alms to 88 Buddhist monks in honour of His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital. Dr. Udom also led the medical personnel and nurses to pay respect to His Majesty the King and to take their oath of allegiance before His Majesty's portrait. Speaking to reporters that His Majesty's age progressing toward 88 years is believed to be very auspicious in the Chinese tradition, the senior royal doctor invited people from all walks of life to come out en masse to have an audience with Their Majesties the King and Queen and other members of the Royal Family at the Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall inside the Grand Palace or to welcome Their Majesties the King and Queen along the route, from Siriraj Hospital, where His Majesty the King is recuperating, to the Grand Palace to show their loyalty and to boost Their Majesties' morale. According to the senior royal physician, Siriraj Hospital will organise all-day activities in honour of His Majesty the King on December 5, starting from 9am and ending with a mass candle lighting ceremony in the evening (local time), in which people from all walks of life are welcome to join. Meanwhile, activities to celebrate His Majesty the King's 87th birthday have also been organised elsewhere nationwide. In Bangkok, highlights include a 14-kilometre-long parade of over 130 micro cars and ancient vehicles, jointly organised by the Royal Thai Army, the state-run Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Jesada Technik Museum on Thursday morning, from the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground to a car park of the Jesada Technik Museum. Similarly, Thailand's off-road networks organised an off-road classic parade, also in the capital, from the Royal Plaza to Sanam Luang ceremonial ground, passing through Rajadamnoen Avenue and an area in front of the Grand Palace. Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, in the meantime, joined a tree planting event in which 1,888 golden shower trees were grown along a 14-kilometre-long route in Min Buri-Nong Jok area. Commerce Minister General Chatchai Sarikalya also led his ministry's executives and officials to sign well-wishing messages to His Majesty the King and to release various varieties of 2.9 million fish and shrimp breeders into the waters, as part of an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives' Department of Fisheries to release a total of 88 million fish and shrimp breeders into rivers and the sea to pay tribute to His Majesty the King on the auspicous occasion of the beloved and revered Thai monarch's 87th birthday in 2014.
