Thai labourers submit demands to govt

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Two labour unions and their members on the National Labour Day submitted six demands to the Thai government on the Labour Day today, including an increase of daily minimum wage to 360 from 300 baht nationwide. More than 1,000 blue-collar workers, either members of the Thai Labour Solidarity Committee or the State Enterprises Workers’ Relations Confederation, called on the government to ratify the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention No 87 and No 98 on freedom of association and negotiations. They also call on the government to waive the policy on privatisation of state enterprises and to lay out measures against workers’ rights violation. Other demands made are raising the daily minimum age to 360 baht nationwide and setting up a bank for workers. On the demand for the increase of the daily minimum wage, Wilaiwan Sae-tia chairwoman of Thai Labour Solidarity Committee said the government should raise the minimum wage to the same rate nationwide even it is less than the 360 baht as a gift to the workers.
