Thai-Lao border trade becomes active

NAKHON PHANOM, THAILAND, December 28 (TNA) - Two-way trade along the Thai-Lao common border in Nakhon Phanom province in the Thai Northeast has now become more lively during the ongoing New Year celebrations, as Lao people have been traveling across the border to stock up on goods. Border markets in all three districts in Nakhon Phanom, including Ta Uten, Muang and Tat Phanom, have been vigorous, as Lao traders have crossed the common border to stock up on goods, particularly consumer products, for the New Year festivity. Apart from crossing the border to stock up on consumer goods, Lao traders have also brought their products across the border with them to be sold in the Thai side, boosting the value of two-way trade along the Thai-Lao border in Nakhon Phanom alone to 10 million baht, from 4-5 million previously. Meanwhile, Nakhon Phanom's authorities have reiterated to all relevant agencies to strengthen security measures to prevent illegal trafficking along border areas during this annual festive season.
