THAI maintains maximum safety during Loy Krathong Festival

BANGKOK, November 10 (TNA) - Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, has revised flight schedules to the Thai North during November 24–27 in order to maintain the maximum safety of its aviation services during the Loy Krathong Festival 2015, set from November 24-27. Nitinai Sirismatthakarn, President of Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. (AOT), told journalists on Tuesday that AOT is concerned over the safety of airlines and wants to ask for cooperation from people living near airports nationwide to float lanterns which would not pose danger to airlines. In particular, Nitinai said, commercial airlines operating in the Thai North have, thus, been asked not to fly after 9pm on November 25, when this year's Loy Krathong Festival officially falls and people in the northern resort Chiang Mai Province are allowed to release hot-air lanterns into the sky. In nearby Chiang Rai Province, people are requested to release hot-air lanterns after 9:30pm during November 24–25 and to only release smoke lanterns during 10am–12am of November 25. Meanwhile, authorities at Thailand's major international airports, namely Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket and Hat Yai Airports, have launched campaigns to create public awareness on not to release lanterns, balloons and fireworks during the upcoming Loy Krathong Festival.
