Thai, Malaysian PMs hold talks on APEC summit sidelines

VLADIVOSTOK, September 8 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra held bilateral talks with her Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak in Russia's far eastern Vladivostok City Saturday morning local time on the sidelines of the ongoing 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and related forums. Yingluck told journalists after the talks that her Malaysian counterpart promised Kuala Lumpur's cooperation with Thailand to settle violence in the southernmost Thai region and support for the Thai government's policy on overcoming the violent unrest in the Thai far South through building peace and development parallelly. The Thai-Malaysian leaders' talks came after latest disturbances in the troubled Thai deep South, in which fake and real bombs were planted by suspected insurgents and Thai national flags were burned while Malaysian flags were hoisted on August 31. Yingluck insisted that relations between Thailand and neighbouring Malaysia have remained warm although the suspected insurgents have tried to create situations in the Thai far South. Yingluck said that both Thailand and Malaysia also agreed to resort to technologies along their border areas to ensure security and to boost bilateral trade and investment; while the Malaysian government is ready to dispatch officials to assist the Thai side. According to the Thai premier, she and her Malaysian counterpart agreed as well to discuss on ways to further enhance bilateral trade and investment during the next meeting of the Thai-Malaysian Joint Commission, set to be held in Malaysia next month.(TNA)
