Thai MFA revokes two passports of ex-PM Thaksin

BANGKOK, May 27 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revoked two passports of exiled ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, after the Royal Thai Police found his remarks in an interview in South Korea last week affect national security. Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, announced the move on Wednesday, confirming that passports numbers U957441 and Z530117 of the ex-Thai premier have already been revoked since May 26, 2015. The spokesman explained that Thaksin's remarks in his interview with reporters during his participation in the 6th Asian Leadership Conference in Seoul, South Korea's capital, last week are considered affecting national security, reputation and dignity. According to the spokesman, Thaksin's remarks criticised Thailand's interim military government and indicated masterminds of the military's move to take over the national administration to topple the previous government of his younger sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, on May 22, 2014. The spokesman told journalists that an official investigation has been underway for prosecution against Thaksin in compliance with the Thai Criminal Code and the Computer Crime Act. (TNA)
