Thai MFA sends Burmese version of murder case ruling to Myanmar

BANGKOK, December 30 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has translated the Thai court's recent ruling on a murder case of two Myanmar men on Koh Tao, or Tao Island, in the Thai South into the Burmese language and delivered it to the Myanmar Foreign Ministry for dissemination among Myanmar citizens. Foreign Ministry Spokeman Sek Wannamethee told journalists on December 29 that the translation was aimed at explaining the Thai justice system to the Myanmar people. The spokesman said the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also been monitoring relevant developments closely and so far no Thai people have been affected. According to the spokesman, about 200 Myanmar people remained rallying at the Thai Embassy in Yangon on December 29 to demand the release of their two countrymen sentenced to death by the Thai court for the murder, but the group dispersed after sending their written demand to an embassy official. Besides, about 40 Myanmar people did the same at the Thai Embassy to Australia on December 29, one day after about 40 Myanmar people showed up at the Thai Embassy to Malaysia for the same purpose, but Malaysian police asked them to move to the Myanmar Embassy. The Two Myanmar migrant workers, both 22-year-old Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, were sentenced to death by the Samui Court of First Instance on December 24 for murdering two British tourists, both 24-year-old Hannah Witheridge and David Miller, on Koh Tao off Surat Thani Province on September 15, 2014.
