Thai military court releases arrested students

BANGKOK, July 7 (TNA) - Thailand's Military Court has released 14 students who were detained and charged with holding a political gathering in defiance of a ban on public demonstrations of more than five persons. Their release on Tuesday came after the court ruled that police investigators had finished collecting necessary evidence and there was no need to further detain them. The 14 students, 13 of whom are male and the rest one is female, were apprehended on June 26 after rallying against the military junta and they were later detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison. Their release came after police earlier took them to the Military Court and sought for a second round of another 12-day detention. The court also allowed representatives of the 14 to inform the court that they were innocent, did not resist the arrest and did not escape from the prison before making the decision. (TNA)
