Thai military to help Nepal quake victims

BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) - More than 24 hours after the deadly quake devastated Nepal and the number of casualties soared nearly 2,000 by Sunday afternoon, numerous countries around the world continue to send aid and supplies. Meanwhile, Thailand is sending its army and air force personnel to Kathmandu to assist in relief efforts. Colonel Sirichan Ngathong, deputy spokeswoman of the Royal Thai Army, said a 70-person rescue team with trained dogs and mobile medical personnel were among the crew. Engineering soldiers would also be sent later to help rebuild infrastructure. She said Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr had ordered for close coverage of developments in the Himalayan nation so that relevant aid could be given to the victims. Separately, Royal Thai Air Force spokesman Monthon Satchukorn said relief planes were ready for deployment to help deliver supplies and personnel in disaster areas. (TNA)
