Thai military to reform public transport services

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - The Thai military says it will take about one month to bring domestic public transport services into a proper order. Lieutenant General Theerachai Nakwanich, Commanding General of the 1st Army Area Command, told journalists on Thursday that Thai Army and National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha is concerned over the problem of unfair public transport services and has discussed possible solutions with concerned authorities. Lieutenant General Theerachai pointed out that the problem concerning unfair fees, illegal parking of public transport vehicles and extortion on service providers which affect fees. The 1st army area commander warned those exercising such influences and extortion to stop, or they will face decisive legal action. It was reported that the 1st army area commander assigned the 1st Division, King's Guards, to supervise motorcycle taxis, the 2nd Cavalry Division, King's Guards, to oversee passenger vans and the 11th Military Circle to regulate taxi services.
