Thai Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Fitr

BANGKOK, June 24 (TNA) - Thai Muslims are preparing to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr marking the end of the Ramadan as migrant workers are heading home to join celebrations with their families. The Sheikhul Islam of Thailand or Chularajamontri has announced that the Eid al-Fitr will be on Sunday if the new moon sighting occurs on Saturday. Celebrations of the end of the Ramadan fasting month, known as Hari Raya in Thailand, are most lively in Muslim-majority south. Transport terminals have been busy with a surge of travelers ahead of the important day of Islam. On the morning of Eid-al Fitr, Thai Muslims visit mosque for prayer before joining a big meal with their families. They spend the rest of the day visiting nearby relatives and the elderly after the month-long fast during which they do not eat, drink or engage in sexual activity from sunrise to sunset. (TNA)
