PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Thailand, December 31 (TNA) - Thai-Myanmar New Year celebrations have begun for the first time at the Singkhon border crossing where Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan province and Myanmar’s Myeik city adjoin. Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Veera Sriwattanatrakul and Myeik Governor U Aung Kyaw Tan jointly launched the New Year celebrations at the Singkhon border crossing in Ban Rai Khrao village of Khlong Wan sub-district in Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan district on Tuesday night. The joint New Year celebrations are aimed at boosting bilateral relations between Prachuap Khiri Khan and Myeik as the Singkhon border crossing will be upgraded into a permanent border pass in the future. At the opening ceremony, there were Thai-Myanmar cultural shows and a beauty contest of women from Mudong village of Myeik. A large number of Myanmar people crossed the border to join the event. Highlights of the New Year celebrations are a praying session, which will be held during the countdown to the New Year on Wednesday night, and an alms-giving activity to welcome the 2015 New Year Thursday morning.
