Thai, Myanmar Parliaments boost relations towards AC

BANGKOK, September 3 (TNA) - Relations between Thai and Myanmar Parliaments will be strengthening, following an ongoing visit to Thailand by Myanmar’s Upper House Speaker Khin Aung Myint, from September 1-4. Thai Parliament President Somsak Kiatsuranont, Deputy House Speaker Wisuth Chainaroon, MPs and high-ranking parliamentary staffs on Tuesday received the visiting Myanmar Upper House Speaker, who proposed the exchange of visits by staffs of the parliamentary secretariats of both countries for the sake of joint development and readiness for the two neighbours' participation in the ASEAN Community (AC) by 2015. Khin Aung Myint, who is on his official trip to Thailand as the guest of the Thai government to boost bilateral ties and cooperation, expressed his gratitude for the reception, saying he was pleased to visit the long-developed Thai Parliament and had a chance to exchange views and experiences. Somsak acknowledged Thailand and Myanmar have had sound relations for a long time and he agreed with the proposal of the Myanmar Upper House Speaker to strengthen relations between the Thai and Myanmar Parliaments. The Thai Parliament President also praised Myanmar for its rapid democratization. (TNA)
