Thai NRC chair determined to resolve political strife

BANGKOK, October 22 (TNA) - Thailand's National Reform Council (NRC) Chairman Thienchay Kiranandana says he is determined to resolve domestic political strife and to complete the NRC's tasks within its set timeframe. Thienchay told journalists on Wednesday that the main goals of the NRC are to resolve domestic political strife and to draft a new Constitution, stressing that the major tasks should be achieved on schedule despite remaining obstacles, including political factors. For national reform, Thienchay acknowledged that there might be more than 10 committees to work out reforms in different areas and outside people can join the panels, including applicants who were not selected to the NRC and experts in various fields, aimed to ensure the efficiency of the national reform. Thienchay said the NRC will also listen to opinions of people throughout the country. According to the NRC chair, he is ready to declare his assets to the public, if it is legally required by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Meanwhile, the whip committee of the NRC was discussing the selection of 20 national reform councilors who will join the Constitution-drafting committee. (TNA)
