Thai physically-challenged to hear court ruling on skytrain case

BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) - A group of the physically-challenged will hear a ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court in a case between them and the BTS electric train operator on Wednesday. Suporntham Mongkholsawasdi, secretary-general of the Redemptorist Foundation for People with Disabilities that is the plaintiff, said the Supreme Administrative Court would read its ruling at 1.30pm on Jan 21. In the case, the physically-challenged accused the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTS) of failing to arrange facilities for them to use the BTS skytrain service. The Central Administrative Court dismissed the case on in 2009, as the BTS electric train contract had been signed in 1996, before the Ministry of Interior's regulation to require facilities for the physically-challenged and the elderly started to take effect in 1999. Over 100 the physically-challenged, the elderly and interested people are expected to gather at the court on Wednesday. They will also announce their stance after the verdict, which will be the outcome of their fight that began before 1995. (TNA)
