Thai PM arrives home, ending two-day trip to Myanmar

BANGKOK, October 10 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has returned to Thailand, ending his two-day official visit to Myanmar, scheduled for October 9-10. Accompanied by his wife, Naraporn Chan-ocha, and his entourage, the Thai prime minister arrived home on Friday evening, after visiting the Thai business community at the Thai Embasssy in Yangon as his last stop in Myanmar, also the current chair of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Proclaiming his first overseas trip, after taking office in August, a success, Prime Minister Prayuth told journalists before flying back home that his talks with Myanmar President Thein Sein in Nay Pyi Daw, Myanmar's capital, on Thursday will not only benefit Myanmar and Thailand, but also the ASEAN as a whole, saying he plans to also visit other ASEAN member countries later. According to the Thai premier, his decision on first visiting Myanmar is to help strengthen ASEAN in security and economy, while also helping eliminate existing problems along the Thai-Myanmar border. The Thai prime minister pointed out if there is a progress in cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand, more foreign firms will invest in joint Thai-Myanmar projects, as they gain more confidence.
