Thai PM asks for cooperation to ease strong baht

BANGKOK, May 7 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has asked for cooperation with her government from all parties concerned to solve the problem of the continual appreciation of the Thai baht since early this year. Yingluck told journalists that the Thai Cabinet, at its weekly meeting on Tuesday, acknowledged impacts of the baht appreciation and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittirat Na-Ranong has been assigned to solve the issue with Bank of Thailand (BOT) Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul and the central bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). Yingluck assured that her government is trying the best to solve the problem of the strong baht and to help affected parties, noting, however, that her administration will only introduce policies, but decisions will rest with the BOT. During the Cabinet's weekly meeting, several groups of protesters, led by the People’s Movement for a Just Society, or P-move, were rallying at Bangkok's Government House for the second day to demand that the government solve their over 10 long-standing problems, including the issuance of community title deeds to legalize the existence of communities, housing and public utility issues and negative impacts of dam projects, prompting the prime minister to have ordered the Ministry of Interior to quickly solve the troubled people's problems.
