Thai PM to attend BRICS Summit 2017 in China

BANGKOK, August 10 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha will visit China early next month to attend the BRICS Summit 2017. Thai Deputy Government Spokesman Lieutenant General Werachon Sukondhapatipak told journalists on August 9 that the prime minister is scheduled to attend the Dialogue of Emerging Markets and Developing Countries, which will be held as part of the 9th Summit of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS). According to the deputy spokesman, the Thai premier expects to also meet and hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang on the sidelines of the 9th BRICS Summit, set to be held in Xiamen, Fujian Province, during September 3-5. The deputy spokesman, meanwhile, revealed that China also presented a financial support of one million baht to assist people in the Thai Northeast and North who have been affected by receding inundations during a farewell meeting between outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Ning Fukui and the Thai premier at Bangkok's Government House on August 9. The deputy spokesman said the outgoing Chinese top envoy expressed his regret for the latest flooding in Thailand, while the Thai premier also expressed his sympathy with China over a strongest earthquake at a renowned national park in the Jiuzhaigou County of Sichuan Province on August 8, killing at least nine people and injuring over 160 others.
