Thai PM calls on all parties to integrate efforts for world nuclear security

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has called on participants in the 4th Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) in Washington DC to integrate their nuclear security efforts to prevent any party with ill-intention from developing nuclear weapons or abusing nuclear energy. The Thai prime minister shared the stance while delivering a speech on "Nuclear Security Perceptions" during a dinner for participating leaders and representatives of 52 countries and four international organisations, hosted by US President Barack Obama at the White House on March 31 (local time). The Thai premier stressed that all countries must seriously prevent, detect and cope with any nuclear situation, while also enhancing the capabilities of their personnel and organisations to meet international standards and requirements. "Thailand attaches great importance to the promotion of nuclear security, which must happen at national, regional and international levels and occur together with work relating to nuclear safety... to ensure sustainable peace, stability and security for the world," said the Thai prime minister. Prime Minister General Prayut acknowledged that Thailand has emphasised nuclear security at all concerned government, private and military agencies, covering the process of transport of nuclear materials. On the occasion, the Thai prime minister urged countries to quickly share intelligence and technologies to ensure nuclear security, reasoning that the nuclear situation would have widespread and indiscriminate impacts. The 4th NSS was set to be held in Washington DC from March 29-31, 2016 (local time). (TNA)
