Thai PM calls for strict rules against alcohol sales near universities

BANGKOK, Aug 6 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha urged relevant officials to tighten regulations on alcohol sales near educational institutions, saying all illegal businesses must be prosecuted, the government spokesperson said. Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, said the government has received a number of complaints from the public and saw news coverage of illegitimate businesses involved in selling liquor near educational institutions, despite the authorities imposing a ban. Lt Gen Sansern referred to the Saturday’s raid on a popular pub operating near Kasetsart University’s Kamphaeng Saen Campus. The officers found that some of the pub-goers, mostly university students, had no ID cards and some were tested positive for drug use. The pub also runs the business without permission, so it will be ordered to shut within 30 days. The spokesperson said the prime minister called for stricter regulations and urged officials to take legal actions against law violators. People were also asked to keep an eye on any illegitimate businesses and notify the local officers of their locations immediately. (TNA)
