Thai PM expresses condolences to Lee Kuan Yew's passing away

BANGKOK, March 23 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has expressed his condolences to the passing away of Lee Kuan Yew, a former prime minister and the founding father of Singapore. Thai Government Spokesman Dr. Yongyuth Mayalarp told journalists that Prime Minister General Prayut has sent a message to his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, who is a son of the Singapore late founding leader, and people of the island state, conveying his deepest condolences to the passing away on early Monday of the Singapore founding father on behalf of the Thai government and people. During his before-noon special speech on enhancing Thailand's competitiveness on trade, organised at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre in Bangkok, the Thai prime minister said he had given a morale support to the Singapore late founding leader during his sickness. The Thai prime minister told the audience that he wished the Singapore late founding prime minister to have lived longer, opining that the first Singapore prime minister had worked very hard before he fell ill. The Thai premier later told reporters that he has postponed his official visit to Singapore, earlier scheduled for March 24-25, until he is informed by the island state of the scheduled funeral of the Singapore founding father. Lee passed away peacefully at Singapore General Hospital before dawn on March 23 at the age of 91, after he had critically suffered from a lung infection. (TNA)
