Red-clad UDD to appeal against order to close Peace TV

BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) - The red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) says it will appeal against the closure of its satellite-based Peace TV, as ordered by the National Broadcasting Committee (NBC). A UDD core leader, Nattawut Saikuar, told journalists of the move, stressing that UDD may seek an injunction from the Bangkok-based Administrative Court to protect the broadcasting of Peace TV. Nattawut insisted that Peace TV is a privately-owned organization with legitimate operations, claiming that the NBC's order affects freedom of expression and private business, as well as obstructs a path to democracy. The UDD leader's remarks were in response to NBC's decision, announced on April 27, to revoke the broadcasting licence of Peace TV allegedly for repeated violations despite warnings and a recent suspension of its broadcasting right.
