Thai PM opens floating market near Government House

BANGKOK, February 12 (TNA) - A new floating market has been opened near Bangkok's Government House, aimed to promote Thai styles-tourism and boost revenues of traders. According to Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha presided over a ceremony to open the floating market along the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal near the Government House on Thursday evening, the second-round of its opening, set from February 12-March 1, 2015 during 11am-7pm, after its recent first-round opening. The deputy government spokesman said the new floating market is part of the government’s “Discover Thainess” tourism campaign, aimed at conserving Thai cultural heritage and unique identity and stimulating the Thai economy. The deputy government spokesman stated that the new floating market will also help develop areas around the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal as recreational places for the public. The floating market, which runs for 350 meters from the Orathai Bridge to the Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge, will be opened from February 12- March 1, 2015. The deputy government spokesman revealed that the 350-meter-floating market, from the Orathai Bridge to the Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge, consists of three zones, including the floating market itself, which is opened from 3pm-8pm and involves 40 boat vendors, the land market with some 90 booth vendors offering several kinds of food and other products, which is opened from 11am-8 pm, and the sightseeing cruise to historic landmarks along the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal, which are set twice a day at 4pm and 5pm.
