Thai PM orders officials to give urgent help to flood victims

BANGKOK, October 13 (TNA) - Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department to work closely with other concerned government agencies to provide urgent assistance and food to flood victims, according to Chatchai Promlert, Director-General of the department. Chatchai said on Sunday that official statistics show that 42 persons have died due to floods since September 17, while the inundations have damaged more than 30,500 houses, some 5,900 roads and about 3.5 million rai of farmland. He said 25 provinces are still flooded, affecting more than 337,000 people, while the inundations in 17 other provinces have eased. Chatchai said the prime minister has also ordered related officials to map out flood rehabilitation plan for affected areas. (TNA)
