Thai PM orders strict controls on inbound, outbound travelers

BANGKOK, February 24 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has ordered security authorities to intensify checks on people entering and exiting the country, especially through sensitive channels. The prime minister told journalists that he made the instruction during the Cabinet's weekly meeting on February 23 to intensify security measures, focused at airports, as well as land and water transport terminals. The prime minister also urged the general public to help report suspicious movements and findings to security officers. “The United States has warned of possible terror acts to all countries in the region and Thailand has also been on alert. But I can assure the public that we are working together with all countries,” said the Thai premier. The prime minister, meanwhile, revealed that the Cabinet also discussed measures to seriously assist drought-affected farmers and approved projects to strengthen local communities. The prime minister noted that his government has supported the national economy, but in the long run, the country needs to be empowered, especially in its sector of small and medium-scaled enterprises (SMEs).
