Thai PM Pledges to Solve International Crime in SE Asia

NEW YORK, Sept 27 (TNA) - The Thai government is determined to solve human trafficking problem and has made the problem as national agenda since 2004 while the country is simultaneously ready to iron out international crime in Southeast Asia, said Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha. Gen. Prayut made his remarks on Saturday during a meeting with the United Nations on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) executive director Yury Fedotov in New York, according to a Thai deputy government spokesman Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak The meeting was held on the sidelines as Gen. Prayut is attending the 70th UN General Assembly annual session. According to the deputy government spokesman, Gen. Prayut told Mr. Fedotov that his government has attached importance to other problems concerning narcotics trafficking, smuggling of migrant workers and corruption in the country and the region as well. On human trafficking which the government has made the problem as national agenda since 2004, Gen. Prayut told the UNODC chief that he had ordered related government agencies to suppress the crux and “zero tolerance” would be made against government officials who are caught involving in the illegal scheme. The deputy government spokesman said that both of them pledged that closer cooperation between Thailand and the UNODC would be made in future to suppress the problem in the region.(TNA)
